Entry deadline: Tuesday, January 23 at midnight!

Juror: Denver’s Power Couple, Merhia Weise and Andrew Novick!

February may be the month of true love for some but at Kanon we want you to explore the darker side of love and art. “Dark Heart” will be juried by Denver’s real power couple, Merhia Weise and Andrew Novick. Merhia is an artist and worked in community engagement for Meow Wolf, and Andrew has been a fixture in the Denver art and music scene for many decades, usually with something involving whatever new and twisted food concoction he has created.

Dark Heart is open to all mediums and your own interpretation of the title. We are excited to see how you communicate the idea through your artwork: broken hearts, sensuality, defective anatomy, gothic love, obsession, anti-love, fantasy, you name it. Have fun with this one.

Artists may submit multiple pieces — $25 for three entries, and $10 for each additional entry. All work submitted must be for sale.

A photo gallery of accepted pieces will be posted online and a link will be emailed to the artists by Friday, January 26. Art must be delivered to Kanon on Sunday, January 28 between 12-5 p.m. All pieces must be completely dry and ready to hang (with proper hanging wire or D-rings – no sawtooth hangers) and all pieces need to be labeled with the artist’s name and title. Sculptures need to be able to fit on a standard 12″ pedestal. In case of multiple pieces, please include a diagram if they are to be hung in a specific order and we will do our best to accommodate this. The show will open on Friday, February 2, and run through Sunday, February 25. We will have receptions all Friday nights that the show runs.

All artwork must be picked up on Sunday, February 25, between 2-5 p.m. Please email us if you need to make other arrangements. Kanon takes no responsibility for work that is left at the gallery after March 12. You will be given a receipt for each piece submitted and may have someone else bring that receipt to the gallery to pick your work up for you.

Kanon will charge a 30% commission, plus tax, on all work sold. Kanon accepts all major credit cards as well as checks. Payment for work will be available 30 days after the show. Artists are welcome to come and pick up their checks, or they can be mailed to you.

Accepted art may be photographed for emails, our website, and other publicity pieces.

Application Instructions:
Please make all entry payments through PayPal and then email your images to info@kanonart.com (use this email for PayPal as well). The entry fees are $25 for the first three entries and then $10 for each additional entry. You can use the button below to add items to your cart, or just do it manually through Paypal. All images should be jpegs or png, files, and 1920 pixels square (add a black background for rectangular images) and files need to be less than 2 MB each.

Please label each image file with your name, title, and the size of your piece (i.e. JaneSmith_Title_12x12.jpg). This is very important as we need to know who each image belongs to and how big the pieces are.

This information — especially the size — is also important in deciding how many pieces we can accept so please be sure to do this. If sending multiple entries, please limit the total file size for each email to 10 MB.

Thanks and please let us know if you have any questions. Please be sure to use the same email for both your PayPal payment and your image submission. Send your payment through PayPal to info@kanonart.com. $25 for three entries and $5 for each additional entry.
