The work you see done by Keith Metz comes from a combined love of abstract expressionism, bright colors, and the human face. All of these are wrapped together to show faces that are deeply engaged in the psyche.
“Painting the mind has become my quest”-with all it’s various combinations of joy, fear, loneliness and love that present themselves. I see this in a similar way in the work of Willem de Kooning and Joan Mitchell. My artwork is a constant search for images of feeling.
To do this, I combine very bright intense color with heavy impasto that creates an “in your face” look. Combined with violent brushwork it creates an extremely powerful image.
Keith is a graduate of Drake University working first as a graphic designer and now as an art teacher in an elementary school.
